It used to be the Bourdain boards, but the season ended a couple weeks ago, and the people on the boards were getting sort of annoying. The D-List is more my speed. I think I've found a home there for now

Thursday, May 04, 2006

There's this new lady at the scheduling office. A lot of ground to cover from cover to cover. some name-dropping brought j.g. ballard's Crash into my consciousness. and now, all these years later, i cared enough to investigate the matter, which has led to my current interest in getting my hands on a copy of this controversial and allegedly "important" piece of 1973. oddly enough, the idea of Crash in all its reckless abandon reminded me of the Cardigans' video for "My Favorite Game." of course, i'm down with that.

but until i can confirm what people have said about Crash, i'm keeping my eyes fixed to the pages of the second of the Ringu series, Spiral. Oooo can you feel the suspense?

Tuesday, April 04, 2006

The Forth Road Bridge

We drove over this bridge in Edinburgh, Scotland. T'was a very long bridge. One of the longest in the world, I think. Well, there's two bridges...one for cars, the other for trains, which is across from the Forth Road Bridge. The train bridge is called the Forth Bridge, and both extend over the Firth, which is the river below. So, one is inclined to call the whole thing the Firth of Forth.

The whole trip was good. Dave's parents really got animated when they drove us up to Scotland. It's where they're from, so they were eager to point out a lot of the sights and tell me about them. We went up on a big hill and looked down over the city and surrounding towns. That was pretty cool. I wasn't able to buy a camera until we got into the city and walked up to the castle though. We went to the National Gallery and looked at some art. Bought some books at each of the 3,000 Waterstones bookstores in town. Had a local lager back at the Woodside hotel:

...where the tiny room had a shower next to the bed. WHAT THE...

I ate a lot of sausages, slept in till 2, watched Britcoms and UKTV Food channels and enjoyed my Davey for two short weeks. I wanna go back...

I am in England right now. Cheers. I'm typing on a Powerbook.
The keyboard has shrinkage. But that's ok. It glows in the
dark...allegedly. So far David's mom has cooked some really nice meals
and his dad has made fun of me for not being able to finish them. Good
times. I was also given a three-pack of Cadburry cream eggs. Score!
Nick, there's this show over here called The IT Crowd. I'm bringing
back episodes on DVD. Funny schtuff. Aight yo. I'm gone for now. Over
and out mates.

p.s. Last night was fun. We went to a friend's home and saw the baby
and played Scene It? and we won. Thanks to me of course. or not. i
didn't know anything except Johnny Depp and 60s crap. Fun times. We
might be going to Edinburgh. It would be nice. I'll write if we get
there. Ok bye.
They call me a scheduler. I'm picking da skillz up as I go, so my brain feels like it's being stimulated. Most of my day I get to sit down, so my butt is pretty happy.

We got a couple of old drunk veterans come in, and a few sweet old souls with the best sense of 70-year-old humor. One or two have hit on me (shudder). Also, there are some pretty cool women veterans that pop in for appointments.

I'm learning medical terms like "echo cardiogram," and "EKG," and "ear-wax removal," and "ultrasound," and "labs." Well, they're not all new to me, but I'm getting a clue what is actually done at this hospital on the hill. A clue is always nice. Especially when I don't know who or what the crap is going on around me in this building.

Saturday, February 11, 2006

I bought my ticket. There's this bag on their site I've been gazing at. But it's $20. Too rich for my blood. But see how friggin trippy it is:

I don't know. Maybe some month when I don't have any big bills to pay. Anyway, I got a new job as a support clerk at the V.A. in Coatesville. I start February 21st. Word got around quick at the BN that I was leaving. Kinda surprised people gave a crap. It's nice to be appreciated. I'm sort of in a state of unrest. Not sure if I really want to leave my job for Coatesville. Although, after I get my first government paycheck, I might be a little more optimistic. Would rather just pack up and head for the hills of Europe. Hopefully I'll be able to get time off in advance to visit England for a couple weeks in March.

I'd like a walking stick. That, and a Cardigans bag to carry my stuff in while I tread the hills of Europe.

Tuesday, January 17, 2006

Meet Smithers...

My new car. Today I signed the papers drove this puppy home. It hasn't sunk in yet. I don't feel like it's really mine yet, as Dad was the one who found it and set everything up with the dealership. Maybe I'll feel like the owner when I start making payments on it. Wished David were in the passenger's seat with me. Instead I put on the KT Tunstall CD he got me for Christmas and sang loudly along. Been listening to it lately to and from work. It's pretty good. She's got pipes.

Saw Narnia tonight. It was pretty good. I don't care what people say. Sure, they changed some of the storyline and added/deleted a few details...but like the whole "Million Little Pieces" controversey, the main point is that it conveys a solid message of hope and connects with people for the better. Narnia did that, and the cinematography was beautiful to boot. The credits revealed that they shot a lot of it in New Zealand. Seems to be the popular country for shooting epic stories lately. I give this film two sore buttcheeks.
